Tennessee Tales & Legends

Tennessee history is filled with frontier heroes, creepy critters, & spine-tingling stories! Challenge your imagination with the historical happenings of the mysterious, the curious, the fantastical and the just plain weird. Hear tall tales, seek hidden treasure, go on our famous cryptid scavenger hunt, and write your own legendary tale!

Ages: 7-15

Date: May 30 - June 2, 2023

Stitching History

Enjoy sewing? (Or think you might?) Campers will learn about fashions from the 1820s and 30s and the importance of hand sewing in the life of people, particularlywomen, of that time. A tour of the house will introduce the many examples ofhand sewing in the Travellers Rest collection. Beginners will learn both basicsewing stitches and decorative embroidery stitches; they will have theopportunity to make a needle book, pin cushions, and reticules (drawstringbags). Advanced stitchers will have the opportunity to design their own samplers, make a rag doll or sewing kit.

Jr. Docent Training & Leadership

Go behind the scenes of Nashville’s oldest house open to the public and experience history from inside out! Whether teaching quill pens or portraying a historic character, junior docents learn about interpretation, museum work, preservation & leadership while fostering a commitment to service. Price includes one camp week of Junior Docent training & one camp week of your choice in Leadership in either Archaeology, Stitching History, or Military Through the Ages Camp. Junior Docent Campers receive 25% off one additional camp purchase!

Officer Training Academy

AT-TEN-TION!!! CADETS, FALL IN!!! Officer Training Academy is now accepting enlistment for a week of drills, tactics, military strategy, and our famous war games. Learn how Civil War Officers trained their soldiers, prepared for battle, and entertained themselves during downtime. All cadets will be loaned a uniform & wooden training rifle for the week.  It’s not just a camp, it’s an adventure!

Miss Mary’s Academy

Notice is hereby given that Miss Mary will be accepting pupils in her academy for the instruction of young ladies at the residence of Judge Overton. Instruction will be given in the fine arts of sewing, manners, penmanship, and the general arts of becoming a lady of the year 1817. Campers will dress in period clothing and attend class in the manner of a 19th century lady in our historic buildings. A perfect fit for the history buff and/or Jane Austen fan. Join us for this unique living history experience and we do Tea!

Archaeology Camp

Do you DIG history? Well, now you can LITERALLY at our camp! Join our knowledgeable staff in learning about the first inhabitants of Travellers Rest through the artifacts they left behind. Hone your Indiana Jones skills by analyzing artifacts, exploring stone tools, and performing an archaeological excavation! If you like getting dirty this is the camp for you!

Ages: 8-15

Dates: June 26-30, 2023 and July 10-14, 2023

History's Mysteries Camp

History's Mysteries Every museum harbors a mystery, an unexpected artifact, a haunting tale, or perhaps something far more strange. Travel with us on an adventurous journey to some of Middle Tennessee’s most interesting historic sites and museums as we gather clues to solve the mysteries. History is full of mysteries waiting for you to solve, so join us on this adventure and become your own history detective. This summer camp will include counselor supervised & driven field trips by van to historic sites around Nashville, Tennessee. There will also be extensivewalking – hiking at some of the sites. We encourage campers to bring and drink plenty of water, as well as prepare to be outdoors much of the time.

Apprentice Camp

Apprentices take notice! Travellers Rest’s newest camp is looking for a few good campers to learn the trades that built America, from weaving to blacksmithing, candle-making to hearth cooking, and several more! Campers will learn the history of 18th & 19th century trades, receive training from skilled artisans, and even get their hands dirty as a trade apprentice. Campers will choose their own “track of learning,” so they can customize their own apprenticeship. This is a truly unique & unforgettable hands-on history experience!

Military Through the Ages

Uncle Sam wants you! Much has changed since 1776: military tactics, fashion, entertainment. Join us for Military Through the Ages Camp to learn about just how far America has come since the American Revolution. We’ll hit all the highlights – like the War of 1812, American Civil War, and World War I, and even some lesser known wars in-between. Come find out why real American heroes understand that knowledge is half the battle!

Date: July 31- Aug. 4, 2023

Cost: $220

Our counselor-supervised extended hours are for campers to watch movies, read, get crafty, & play!

Before Care: 7:30 A.M. – 9:00 A.M.

Cost: $60 per Week or $14 per Day

After Care: 3:30 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.

Cost: $70 per Week or $16 per Day

Savings: Before and After Combo: $115 per Week
